“The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device. We will make games for the NX,” said The Pokemon Company’s CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.
This supposed melding of home and handheld would confirm some of the recent rumors regarding Nintendo’s upcoming console. Reports from MCVUK and Eurogamer indicated that the console would be some sort of hybrid between a handheld and a home console with the ability to be played on the go or be displayed on a TV. These reports also claimed that the NX would feature detachable controllers. Although the piece about being a hybrid console appears to be confirmed for now, it is worth noting that there has been no official verification regarding the specifics of the device or its controllers.
The news that a new Pokemon game will be available for the NX also confirms a report by MCVUK (the same article linked above) which also stated that we would see a Mario title on the NX within a short time of its release. Bear in mind, however, that stating that a Pokemon game will eventually come out for a Nintendo console isn’t exactly a logical stretch, so this doesn’t necessarily confirm the rest of the information given by MCVUK’s source.
Regardless, the fact that Ishihara is willing to confirm a Pokemon release this soon is hopefully an indicator that we won’t have to wait too long into the NX’s lifespan to see that game released.
